There Are 17 Grandma Stereotypes That Exist — How Many Are Totally You?

Are you a stereotypical grandma?

Every grandma is special in her own way. But let’s be honest — there are some things many of us have in common! (Maybe it’s just a grandma thing!)

Even though stereotypes can sometimes be unfair, when it comes to being a grandma, they can actually be sweet. They remind us that we are all connected in little ways. Here are a few classic grandma habits that might just make you smile:

1. You keep every little gift or drawing they give you

It doesn’t matter if it’s a scribbled drawing, a handmade card, or a rock they picked up outside — if it’s from your grandchild, you treasure it like gold. You probably even have a special drawer or box just for their sweet little gifts.

2. You always have a craft or project ready

Whether it’s coloring, baking cookies, or making homemade cards, you always have a fun project waiting for when the grandkids visit. You know that a little creativity makes for the best memories — and a little bit of extra glitter never hurts!

3. You’re the queen of “just one more”

One more cookie, one more cartoon, one more story before bed — somehow “just one more” turns into five more! But who’s counting when you’re making memories (and maybe bending the rules just a little)?

4. You love sharing stories from “back in my day”

Grandkids might roll their eyes, but you love telling them what life was like when you were their age. You share stories about rotary phones, riding bikes without helmets, and playing outside until the streetlights came on. It’s your way of keeping the past alive — and giving them a few laughs along the way!

5. You’re the keeper of the best toys

Back when my kids were little, I held onto their favorite toys — just in case. Now, those old Lego sets, Hot Wheels, and Barbies are the stars of the show whenever my grandkids come over. It’s proof that sometimes, a little bit of saving pays off in the sweetest ways!

6. At grandma’s house, there are no rules!

When the grandkids come over, all the usual rules go right out the window. My house is a place for fun and making memories!

Ice cream for dinner? Sure! Stay up way past bedtime to watch cartoons? Of course! Skip nap time and head to the park instead? Let’s go!

At grandma’s, anything is possible.

7. You stock up on food before the grandkids visit

Cookies? Check. Freshly baked pastries? Check. Ice cream in the freezer? Of course!
Grandmas love to keep the pantry full for whenever the grandkids come over. (You might call it too much, but I call it being prepared!)

8. You always ask the grandkids if they’re hungry

Even if they just finished a big lunch, we can’t help but ask, “Are you still hungry?” It’s just built into us. We worry they might need a little more to eat. And really, what’s the harm in offering one more spaghetti?

9. You treat afternoon naps like a hobby

There’s nothing better than curling up on the couch for a cozy nap, especially with a baking show playing in the background. The Great British Baking Show is my favorite! A little rest, a little TV — it’s a win-win, and I’m not one bit sorry about it.

10. You have a love-hate relationship with technology

Modern technology is amazing… until it isn’t! I love being able to video call my grandkids. But why do gadgets always act up when you need them most? And why is fixing them always such a puzzle?

11. Your purse has everything anyone could ever need

Need a tissue, some gum, a red crayon, or even a tiny sewing kit?

No problem — grandma’s got it!

Sometimes I wonder if we raised a generation that isn’t quite as prepared as we are. But don’t worry. My purse is packed with toothpicks, band-aids, spare cash, coins, and even a few Saltine crackers — just in case!

12. You love to brag about your grandkids

How can you not brag when your grandchild is so adorable, smart, talented, and funny? You just want to shout it from the rooftops!

Whether it’s sharing pictures with friends, telling stories at family gatherings, or posting on Facebook, you can’t help but spread the joy.

13. You have a pet to keep you company between visits

I don’t get to see my grandkids every day, so I decided to care for a pet too. Now, I have a cat who acts like she’s their second mom! Many of my grandma friends have pets too — from dogs and cats to birds and even fish. They help keep our hearts full while we count down the days to our next grandkid visit.

14. You’re always reading something

Whenever your grandchild visits, chances are you’ve got a book, a Kindle, or a magazine in your hands. You love to read — and by reading around them, you’re not just having fun. You’re also setting a wonderful example and inspiring the next generation of readers.

15. You know your grandchild is the cutest

Let’s be honest — your grandchild is cuter than anyone else’s, and you know it! That’s why you’re always showing off their photos and telling everyone about them. (Really, you’re just doing the world a favor by sharing their cuteness!)

16. You take way too many photos (and you love it)

Every hug, every silly face, every little moment — you’re ready with your camera or phone. You probably have hundreds (okay, thousands) of pictures of your grandkids. And honestly? You wouldn’t trade a single one of them for the world.

17. You sometimes question your kids’ parenting choices

If you’re like me, you might find yourself quietly wondering about some of your child’s parenting rules. Maybe they seem a little too strict at times.

But one thing I’ve learned is to let them parent their way — and to only step in when something truly feels unsafe.

Be honest: how many of these sound like you?

I have to admit — I fit almost all of them, and I’m proud of it! I hope this list made you smile because you deserve all the happiness, sweet grandma. Can’t wait to chat again soon!
