Sharing is caring!

It’s Valentine’s Day—a special time to celebrate the people we love! Our grandchildren are some of the most important people in our lives.

If you’re looking for fun and simple ways to show them how much you care, I’ve made a list of 14 easy ideas just for you.

Read them a special Valentine’s Day book

Snuggle up with your grandchild and enjoy a sweet Valentine’s Day story together. Whether it’s a silly tale or a heartfelt one, reading out loud is a great way to bond. You can even let them pick the book—or surprise them with a new one!

Here are my favorite Valentine’s Day books.

Write them a love note

Take a few minutes to write a short, sweet note to your grandchild. Tell them what you love about them, a special memory you share, or why they make you proud. Tuck it in their backpack, mailbox, or lunchbox—it’s a small thing that means a lot.

Have a cozy movie night

Pick a fun Valentine’s movie or a family favorite, make some popcorn, and snuggle up with blankets. You can even let them pick the snacks and movie. Time spent together is often the best gift of all!

Bake something together

Kids love helping in the kitchen—especially when sweets are involved! Make heart-shaped cookies, cupcakes, or brownies. Let your grandchild help with mixing, decorating, and of course, taste-testing!

If you don’t live nearby, here’s another idea…

Donut delivery

Lots of stores and donut shops sell heart-shaped treats for Valentine’s Day. Pick up a dozen and drop them off for breakfast! If you don’t live close, you can still send donuts using delivery apps like DoorDash, Grubhub, or Uber Eats.

Create a Valentine’s Day photo booth

Set up a little photo area with fun props like heart glasses, hats, or signs. Use your phone or a camera to snap silly pictures together. It’s a fun way to laugh, be creative, and make memories that last!

Buy them a gift

This one might seem obvious, but kids really do love getting gifts! No matter how much you want to spend, you can find something fun they’ll enjoy. Stores like Dollar Tree and Five Below have great, budget-friendly options.

Send surprise mail

If you don’t live near your grandkids, send them a fun surprise in the mail! You could mail a cute card with stickers or a small box filled with candy and heart-shaped goodies. No matter what you send, it will make them feel loved this Valentine’s Day.

Take them on a “yes day”

Have you seen Yes Day on Netflix? It’s a fun movie where parents say “yes” to their kids all day long. Why not do the same for your grandchild this Valentine’s Day? Movie and popcorn? Yes! Picnic in the park? I’ll pack the PB&Js! Dance party? Grandma’s ready to boogie!

Take them out to eat

Going out for lunch or dinner is a fun way to spend time together. Ask your grandchild where they’d like to go. Most kids love fast food or restaurants with play areas. You could even add a sweet treat like ice cream to make it extra special!

Give them a family keepsake

If your grandchild is a teen or an adult, think about giving them a special family item. A piece of jewelry, a favorite old book, or something meaningful from your home can be a gift they treasure forever.

Make them something

Does your grandchild have a favorite snack or treat? Make it for them! If you like to crochet, you could create a blanket or a stuffed animal. Even a homemade Valentine made with paper and a doily will show how much you care.

Do a fun Valentine’s craft

Surprise them at school

Kids love surprises—especially at school! You can send balloons or flowers, or even pick them up for a special lunch. If you know their teacher, you might be able to visit the classroom and read a fun Valentine’s Day story to the whole class.

And there you go—14 simple ways to show your love to your grandkids this Valentine’s Day! You don’t have to spend much money. Just spending time together and making happy memories is often the best gift of all. I hope you and your grandkids have the sweetest Valentine’s Day ever.
