Make This Ultimate Easter Egg Hunt That Your Grandkids Always Remember

Sharing is caring!

Spring is here, and so is the Easter season! As a Christian grandma, I’m so happy to celebrate that Jesus is alive. I’m also excited because my family will be coming together to enjoy this special time.

Easter isn’t really about bunnies or candy-filled eggs, but those things do make the day extra fun—especially for my grandkids. They always look forward to our Easter egg hunt, and I love planning it for them. If you enjoy a good Easter egg hunt, too, I’d love for you to join me in making this one unforgettable!

Set the Stage for the Hunt

This might be a little over the top, but I love adding small touches to make things special for my grandkids. (Do they notice? I’m not sure—but I enjoy it!) Don’t worry if you don’t have the time or energy to do all this. Just do what works for you!

To get ready for the egg hunt, I hang up a cheerful Easter banner. I also set out colorful baskets or bags with each grandchild’s name on them. And if I’m feeling extra creative, I’ll make a little photo booth wall with fun Easter props for pictures.

Kids LOVE candy—honestly, grandmas do too! Candy is easy to find and doesn’t cost much. But I also like to add in a few fun surprises that aren’t sweets.

Here are some of my favorites:

  • Quarters or gold dollar coins
  • Mini Lego figures
  • Egg-shaped chalk
  • Lip balm or chapstick
  • Crocs shoe charms
  • Goldfish crackers or Annie’s Bunnies snacks
  • Religious temporary tattoos
  • Cute stamps or stickers
  • Hair ties
  • Keychains or bracelets

Add a Special Welcome Touch

Before the hunt begins, I like to greet each grandchild with a warm welcome. Sometimes I write their names on a chalkboard or leave a little note by their basket. A few kind words or a “Happy Easter!” sign helps them feel seen and loved the moment they walk in.

Want to try something new this Easter? There are lots of fun ways to make your egg hunt extra special. Here are some of my favorite ideas:

Glow-in-the-Dark Easter Egg Hunt

If your grandkids are spending the night, try this fun idea! Put small glow sticks inside plastic eggs and hide them around the yard or house. Give each child a flashlight and let them hunt for the glowing eggs in the dark!

Color-Coded Egg Hunt

Give each grandchild a color—like red, blue, or yellow—and tell them to only find eggs in that color. This helps keep things fair and avoids any arguments over who got more.

Puzzle Piece Egg Hunt

Put one puzzle piece in each egg. After your grandkids find all the eggs, they work together to build the puzzle. When it’s done, it shows a special picture or message.

Sensory Easter Egg Hunt

Fill eggs with fun textures like playdough, slime, or tiny bumpy toys. This is great for little ones who love to explore with their hands!

Easter Egg Bingo

Make bingo cards with pictures of different eggs—like striped, sparkly, or sticker-covered. As kids find matching eggs, they mark their cards. The first one to get a row wins a prize!

Easter Egg Obstacle Course

Set up a silly course they have to follow to find their eggs. Have them hop like bunnies, crawl under chairs, or walk a “tightrope” made of string. It’s fun and gets them moving!

I hope these ideas help you plan a fun and memorable Easter with your grandkids. If you try any of them—or have your own favorites—please share! My inbox is always open. Happy Easter to you and your family! With love, Grandma Wise
