12 Fun and Surprising Changes When You Become a Grandma

Sharing is caring!

Being a mom and being a grandma are quite different, and it’s really amusing when you think about it!

As a grandma, you don’t have as many responsibilities and you have loads of wisdom from your own experiences. This means you can be more relaxed, and yes, spoil your grandkids with treats more often!

Just remember to give your children space to figure out parenting on their own. They’re learning, just like you did once! 😊

1. Laughing when your grandkids are naughty

Isn’t it funny when the grandkids are up to mischief? Now your kids might understand a little bit of what you went through. It’s like saying, “Now you see what I dealt with!” in a fun way.

2. Bedtime isn’t so strict anymore

Remember how you always made sure your kids were in bed on time? Well, with the grandkids, it’s a bit more relaxed. Staying up late for one more episode of their favorite show, Bluey, seems okay now, doesn’t it?

3. Buying fun gifts for your grandkids

Ever thought about buying a drum set as a birthday gift? Or maybe squirt guns for each grandkid to play with? It’s different when it’s for the grandchildren, right?

4. Spending more on your grandkids

Being retired means sometimes you have a bit more money to spend. And what better way to use it than on spoiling the grandkids? It feels great to treat them!

5. Keeping kid-friendly supplies

Alongside your own important things, like Bengay, you keep a box of Pororo band-aids ready. It’s always good to have the basics when the grandkids come over!

6. Candy for a little bribery

It’s not that you’ve replaced rules with candy, but sometimes, a piece of chocolate is just the right thing to keep things calm. It’s a sweet little trick you’ve learned over the years!

7. Learning new things from a three-year-old

You used to teach your kids everything about the world. But now, guess what? Your three-year-old grandson is the one showing you how to play games on the iPad!

8. Being proud of your parenting

There were times you wondered if you were doing everything right as a parent. Now, you’re sure you did great! You can say with a smile, “We did our best, and you turned out just fine!”

9. Seeing your home differently

When you have all the time in the world, keeping the house perfect isn’t so important. If the grandkids come over and make a mess, it’s okay! A little scratch on the wall? No problem. Anything goes at Grandma’s house!

10. Loving all the grandma gifts

Do you have a mug that says “#1 Grandma” or a pillow that celebrates your grandchildren? Those used to seem a bit much, but now, the more, the merrier! They show how special being a grandma is.

11. Nap time is for both of you

When the kid goes down for a nap, you do too. 🙂

When you were younger, there was never enough time to rest. But now, if your grandson takes a nap, it’s the perfect time for you to sneak in some rest too!

12. Enjoying being the elder

Getting older isn’t always easy, but it beats the alternative! Now that you’re the elder, it’s a joy to spoil the younger ones and share all your love.

Did I capture everything? I hope this brings a smile to your face, reminding us to take life as it comes and find reasons to laugh.
