22 Hilariously Fun (and a Little Crazy) Things to Do With Your Grandkids

Sharing is caring!

Ever since I started this site, I’ve loved sharing fun things to do with the grandkids. But let’s be honest—there’s only so many times you can say “let’s go to the park” before it feels a little… well, boring!

So, let’s shake things up. Put on your imagination hat, be a little silly, and show those grandkids that you’re still young at heart. Because I know you are—kids can see that spark in you, and they love it!

I’ve put together 22 giggle-worthy ideas that will have you laughing, playing, and bonding with your grandkids like never before. Get ready for some big smiles! 🙂

1. The Joke-Off

Have a contest to see who can tell the silliest jokes or come up with the funniest puns. You’ll both be laughing so hard you might not even finish your punchlines! And if you need more giggles, try tongue twisters too—they’re just as silly.

2. The Silly Olympics

Host your very own “Silly Olympics” with events like pillowcase races, egg-on-a-spoon challenges, or a blindfolded obstacle course. It’s a fun way to get moving, and you’ll make memories you’ll both talk about for years.

3. Spooky Story Swap

Write silly, spooky stories and trade them with your grandchild. Then take turns reading them out loud using your best dramatic voices. You’ll be amazed at each other’s wild imaginations—and you’ll share plenty of giggles (and maybe a few “boo!” moments).

4. Time Travel Adventure

Play dress-up with outfits from different decades—maybe a fancy hat from the ’50s or wild sunglasses from the ’80s. Act out funny scenes from history or imagine what life might be like in the future. You’ll laugh, learn new things about each other, and create memories you’ll both treasure.

5. Backward Day

Spend a whole day doing everything backward—wear your shirt inside out, walk backward, and even try talking in “reverse.” It feels so silly, but that’s the best part! You and your grandchild will laugh nonstop as you try to live in this topsy-turvy world.

6. The Funky Fashion Show

One afternoon, my granddaughter and I put on the silliest fashion show you can imagine. We dug through the closet for wacky outfits, silly hats, and even a few old wigs. Then we strutted down our “runway” and snapped goofy photos to keep forever. It felt a little crazy, but oh, we laughed so much—and that’s what mattered most!

7. “What If” Game

Take turns asking each other funny “what if” questions, like, “What if you could teleport, but only to the top of Mount Everest?” or “What if cats could talk?” It’s such a simple game, but it sparks the best conversations—and you’ll learn so much about how your grandchild thinks.

Here’s my list of questions if you need ideas!

8. DIY Mini Golf Course

Turn your backyard—or even your living room—into your own mini-golf course! Use books, boxes, or toys as obstacles and see who can make the trickiest hole. My grandkids love this, and we always end up laughing at our crazy, homemade course.

9. Opposite Art

Try making art in a totally new way—use the hand you don’t normally write with or even paint with your toes! It feels silly, but that’s the fun of it. Plus, you’ll have goofy “masterpieces” to keep as sweet memories.

10. Odd Scent Detective

Turn smelling into a silly guessing game! Take turns wearing a blindfold and trying to figure out mystery scents—spices, fruits, or even grandma’s favorite hand lotion. You’ll end up laughing so hard, especially when the guesses get silly.

11. DIY Superheroes

Create your own superhero characters together, complete with fun costumes and made-up superpowers. My grandson still giggles when he remembers the day we became “Super Granny” and “Lightning Kid” to defeat the terrifying “Pillow Monster.” And who says you need Halloween to dress up? Anytime can be superhero time!

12. Alien Language Day

Pretend you’ve just landed from another planet and can only speak in a silly “alien” language. Try to talk, laugh, and guess what each other is saying. It’s downright hilarious—and such a fun way to spark creativity and connect in a new way.

13. Creative Yoga

Make up your own yoga poses and give them goofy names—“The Flamingo,” “The Pretzel,” or even “The Sleepy Sloth.” You’ll be stretching, laughing, and relaxing all at the same time. Plus, it’s a sweet way to slow down and just enjoy each other.

14. The Great Grandma Bake-Off

Hold a baking contest where you both try to make a family recipe—with a crazy twist! My granddaughter and I once added hot sauce to our chocolate chip cookies. We couldn’t stop laughing every time we took a bite of those spicy cookies!

15. Indoor Camping

Set up a cozy tent in the living room, make microwave s’mores, and tell stories by “campfire” (a flashlight works great!). Peek out the window to look at stars and stay up a little late just giggling and talking. These are the moments your grandchild will remember forever.

16. Zombie Apocalypse Training

Pretend you’re surviving a zombie invasion! Build goofy obstacle courses, practice “escape plans,” and sneak around like you’re on a secret mission. It’s exciting, a little wild, and the kind of play that makes the best memories.

17. Mad Scientist Kitchen

Turn snack time into an experiment! Mix up weird (but safe!) food combos like popcorn with honey or apples with shredded cheese. Take turns taste-testing each “creation” and vote on the weirdest—but still yummy—dish. You’ll end up giggling just as much as eating!

18. Laughter Yoga

My friend once told me about doing laughter yoga with her grandson—it’s exactly what it sounds like: laughing for no reason at all! She said they couldn’t stop giggling, and it brought them so much closer. Sometimes joy really is the best exercise.

19. Dance Like No One’s Watching

Turn up the music and have your own living-room dance party. The goofier the moves, the better! You’ll both be laughing so hard you won’t even care how silly you look.

20. Underwater Adventure

My friend once told me how she and her granddaughter filled the bathtub with toys, put on goggles, and explored their own “ocean world.” It sounded so fun, I had to try it—and my grandkids loved it! Sometimes the best adventures happen right at home.

21. Grandma’s Got Talent

Host a family talent show where you both perform your funniest or silliest talents. I’ll never forget the time my granddaughter and I put on a ridiculous interpretive dance routine—we laughed so hard we could barely finish! It’s the perfect way to be silly and show off your hidden talents.

22. Sock Puppet Theater

My neighbor once told me about the time she and her grandson made sock puppets and performed a silly play for the family. It’s such a sweet idea! You can craft your own funny characters, give them silly voices, and create a story together. It’s a perfect mix of laughter, creativity, and bonding time.

And that’s the last of my wacky ideas—before you send me off to the looney bin! I hope these little adventures made you smile and maybe gave you a few fun things to try. If you do any of them, I’d love to hear about it—because nothing makes me happier than knowing you’re out there making special memories with your grandkids. ❤️
