Sometimes, we all need a little help. It might be a small push in the right direction or just a few kind words. Life can feel big and scary, especially for older people. But thankfully, there are still kind folks out there.
At a mall in Massachusetts, an 83-year-old man stood at the top of an escalator, too scared to move. If you’re like me, you know escalators can be tricky. For many seniors, the moving steps and fast timing can feel dangerous.
The man didn’t know what to do. That’s when a kind 23-year-old named Alonzo Johnson stepped in to help. Alonzo gently linked arms with the man and stood beside him the whole way down. To help calm his nerves, Alonzo made small talk and even told the man he looked great!
A hospice nurse saw the sweet moment and snapped a photo. It quickly went viral online! We later learned that the elderly man had a bad fall on an escalator before, which made him freeze up in fear. But on this day, a kind stranger was there to help—and that made all the difference. 😊
Alonzo said he was raised by his mom to always do the right thing and help others. And wow—did he make her proud! The world could use more people like Alonzo and his mom.
