“To play wrong notes is insignificant. To play without passion is inexcusable.” – Ludwig van Beethoven
Philip Springer, a 94-year-old American composer, really shows he believes this. When he plays Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata on the piano, he doesn’t make any mistakes, and he plays with a lot of feeling. It’s amazing to watch him play this famous piece, which Beethoven wrote when he was much younger, in his early thirties.
Philip Springer is famous for writing the Christmas song “Santa Baby” way back in 1953. He was born on May 12, 1926, and he’s still making music today! He has created over 540 songs, including tunes for many famous singers. His career has lasted more than 70 years, which has really polished his music skills. But what really keeps him going, even now, is his huge love for music.

Here’s a cool lesson: always keep doing what you love, no matter what gets in your way. Sometimes, we think up reasons why we can’t do certain things anymore. But if we turn that energy into being positive and creative, there’s no limit to what we can achieve!
Now, get ready for a treat. Watch the video below where Philip Springer plays a beautiful piece for his daughter’s birthday. It’s really special! Even though he’s older, when he plays, you can feel the joy of the young boy who first fell in love with music and the piano.
