17 Words Grandmas Absolutely Do Not Have in Their Vocabulary

Sharing is caring!

As a proud grandma, I can tell you—there’s nothing better than the love we share with our grandkids. They fill our hearts with joy, laughter, and purpose. Being a grandma means showing up with hugs, cookies, and a whole lot of love.

Today, I want to share something fun with you—a light and silly list of 17 things you’ll almost never hear a grandma say. Why? Because we’re usually too busy snuggling, cheering, and caring for the ones who call us Grandma.

And hey, if you don’t agree with all of them, that’s perfectly okay. Every grandma is special in her own way. 🙂

1. “No”

It’s hard for a grandma to say “no” to her grandkids. We just love seeing them happy—even if that means bending the rules a little. One more cookie? Sure. An extra bedtime story? Why not. Staying up a little late? Just this once!

2. “My house is too clean”

Grandmas know that when grandkids come over, messes come too—and that’s okay! Cookie crumbs, glitter, and pillow forts are signs of fun and laughter. A clean house can wait, but the memories we make together? Those last forever.

3. “I’m too tired”

Somehow, grandmas always seem to have energy when it comes to their grandkids. Whether we’re baking cookies, building puzzles, or helping with homework, we find the strength to keep going. Being with them fills our hearts—and that joy keeps us moving.

4. “Don’t bother me”

To a grandma, her grandkids are never a bother. Whether it’s a sweet chat, a big question, or just sitting together, we’re always happy to be there. That special bond means we want to be part of their world—every chance we get.

5. “That’s enough hugs”

Too many hugs? Never! Grandmas treasure every single snuggle. Hugs are one of the sweetest ways we connect with our grandkids, and we’ll always open our arms for one more squeeze.

6. “I don’t care”

Nothing could be further from the truth—grandmas care deeply. We cheer from the sidelines, beam at school plays, and ask how the day went. When it comes to our grandkids, we care… a whole lot.

7. “Be quiet”

Sure, quiet moments can be nice—but grandmas truly love the sound of their grandkids laughing, talking, and being silly. We enjoy every story, every question, and even those goofy jokes. So it’s rare you’ll ever hear a grandma say, “Be quiet.”

8. “Don’t ask me”

Grandmas have lived through a lot, and they love sharing what they’ve learned. Whether it’s a big life question or something small, we’re always happy to listen and help. You’ll never hear a loving grandma say, “Don’t ask me.”

9. “You’re on your own”

That’s just not how grandmas work. We’re always ready to help, whether it’s a tough homework question or a big feeling that needs talking through. Grandmas are team players—and we’ll never let our grandkids face things alone.

10. “I don’t have time”

Time with grandkids is the best time of all. No matter how busy we might be, we’ll always find a way to squeeze in a visit, a chat, or a cuddle. Grandmas make time—because making memories is what we love most.

11. “You’ve had enough sweets”

Let’s be honest—grandmas are known for their yummy treats and love of baking. Sharing cookies, cakes, or a piece of candy is part of the fun. A little sugar now and then? That’s part of the magic of being at Grandma’s house!

12. “I’m too old for this”

Grandmas are young at heart when it comes to spending time with their grandkids. Whether it’s dancing in the living room or trying out a new game, we’re all in. “I’m too old for this” just doesn’t fit when we’re having fun with the ones we love most.

13. “You watch it—I’ll be over here”

Grandmas don’t like sitting on the sidelines. Whether it’s a puppet show, dance routine, or a backyard adventure, we want front-row seats. We’re there to clap, cheer, and join the fun whenever we can!

14. “Let’s not make a big deal out of it”

To a grandma, everything their grandchild does is a big deal! A drawing? It goes on the fridge. A school award? Let’s tell everyone. We celebrate the little moments because they mean the world to us.

15. “That’s just a silly dream”

Grandmas are the biggest dream believers. Want to be an astronaut, a chef, or a dragon trainer? We’ll cheer you on every step of the way. We know that dreams—big or small—deserve love and support.

16. “You should grow up faster”

Grandmas know that childhood is a special time that goes by too fast. We treasure every silly moment, every wide-eyed question, and every hug. There’s no rush—just love for who our grandkids are right now.

17. “I’ve seen enough of you”

No way! Grandmas never get tired of spending time with their grandkids. Every visit is a gift, and we always look forward to the next hug, laugh, and memory we’ll make together.

Even if a few of these 17 phrases might come out now and then (in just the right moment!), one thing never changes—our love for our grandchildren is endless. I hope this list made you smile. And if you didn’t agree with every one, that’s perfectly okay—thanks so much for reading!
