40 Questions to Ask Your Grandchild and Then Show to Them When They’re 18

Sharing is caring!

If you’ve been here for a while, you probably already know this about me—I love asking my grandkids questions! It’s such a fun way to really get to know them. Their answers show off their personalities and help them open up in the sweetest ways.

Lately, I had an idea that made my heart smile: What if I asked them a bunch of special questions, saved their answers, and gave it all to them as a gift when they turn 18? Like a little time capsule full of memories and laughter! I can just imagine their faces when they look back at their answers years later.

Now, how you save their answers is totally up to you! You can jot them down on paper, type them up, or even turn them into a little book. This can be as simple or as fancy as you want—either way, it will be a treasure.

There’s no rush, either. Ask the questions slowly over time, during car rides, bedtime chats, or while baking cookies. When the day comes to give it to them, it will be one of the most meaningful gifts you’ve ever shared.

Here are the 40 questions I asked my grandkids. You can use any or all of them—or add your own!

Do you have older grandkids who are getting close to 18? It’s not too late! You can still ask them these questions and give the answers back to them later—maybe when they turn 21, 25, or even 30. Our grandkids grow and change so fast, which makes saving their thoughts and memories even more special.

I truly hope you enjoy this keepsake idea as much as I do. I still have a little while before I give mine back, but I can’t wait to see their faces—and hopefully hear lots of laughter as the memories come rushing back.
