Some things in life are truly worth waiting for. And when it comes to family, keeping everyone safe and healthy always comes first—even if it means waiting a little longer to hug someone you love.
That’s what happened to 53-year-old Mike Priebe. He became a grandpa but had to wait 10 long months before meeting his new granddaughter. The delay was caused by a mix of things—COVID-19, living far apart, moving homes, and military duties. But the day finally came!
Mike’s daughter, Haley McLelland, and her husband, Cameron, welcomed baby Riley in North Carolina. Soon after, Cameron’s military job moved their little family to California. Still, they dreamed of going back to Ohio, where both Haley and Cameron grew up—and where Grandpa Mike still lives.
At last, they got the okay to travel and made the 2,000-mile journey for a surprise visit.
With help from her grandma and aunt, Haley placed baby Riley—snuggled in her carrier—right on Grandpa Mike’s porch. When Mike opened the door and saw her, his face went from surprise to pure joy. Tears flowed, hearts melted, and the moment was unforgettable. 🥹
