There’s nothing more special than having grandchildren. That’s why meeting them for the very first time is such an exciting moment for any grandparent!
But sometimes, things happen that can delay that first meeting—and some of those things can be pretty scary.
For new parents Ines and Sandro Lavelle, their baby, Gianni, was born six weeks early. He had trouble breathing and swallowing, so he had to stay in the NICU for 50 days. It was a very hard time for Ines and Sandro. But after a full week with no breathing problems, baby Gianni was finally cleared to go home!
Now it was time for something joyful—the grandparents were going to meet their grandson for the first time! Ines and Sandro decided to make it a surprise.
They brought Gianni to each set of grandparents’ homes and left him on the doorstep. Then they knocked on the door and waited for them to find the baby!
First, they surprised Ines’ parents, Gianni and Marianna. (That’s when Grandpa Gianni found out the baby was named after him!) Then they went to see Sandro’s parents, Renato and Bernadina. The reactions from both sets of grandparents were full of love and joy. You could tell the wait was worth it.
Now the whole family is together—happy, healthy, and filled with love.
