New technology can feel confusing—and even a little scary. But the only way to learn it is by giving it a try!
Let’s be honest—people often say our generation doesn’t like change. But when it’s for family, we really do try our best. There are so many ways to stay in touch now if we’re just willing to learn something new.
Learning, though, isn’t always easy. It can be frustrating… and also really funny! And if we can’t laugh at ourselves, what’s the fun in that?
In the video below, you’ll see an 89-year-old grandmother trying out voice recognition on her tablet for the first time. Everyone is cracking up!
She’s using the “Hey Google” feature on her tablet—kind of like how Apple has “Hey Siri.” Her granddaughter, Annalise Phillips, is recording it all. Annalise’s mom is sitting nearby, watching too.
But things aren’t going so well. The tablet doesn’t seem to understand Grandma at all.
“Is it working?” Annalise asks.
Grandma replies, “No!”
“Should we just type it instead?” someone suggests.
Grandma says, “I think so!”
Typing might be a bit more work, but it’s easier for Grandma right now. She’ll figure it out soon. Old dogs can learn new tricks!
In the meantime, everyone is laughing and enjoying the moment.
